Color Coordinating at Crater Lake

the view from Crater Lake National Park’s Sinnott Memorial Overlook

Last month I traveled with my family traveled through Oregon an Washington as part of our summer vacation. Our first stop was Crater Lake National Park, where my wife and I enjoyed an after-dinner walk along the Rim Trail that brought us to the Sinnott Memorial Overlook, a covered viewing area on the southern edge of the caldera cliff. A knockoff of a similar overlook at Grand Canyon National Park (that, coincidentally, my wife and I had visited a few months earlier), it was unfortunately closed when we arrived, but we could still enjoy the views from the stone walkway leading to its locked entry doors.

The low light of the early evening rendered the lake’s famously blue waters an even more saturated cobalt that, on this particular day and at this particular hour, perfectly matched the color of companion’s shirt.
